Eighteen Illegal Aliens Located and Turned Over to U.S. Border Patrol

On May 18th, 2011 at 11:58 p.m. a Pinal County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was south of Arizona City on a side road west of Sunland Gin Road. The area is a known smuggling route for those involved with drug and human trafficking.
The deputy observed several subjects attempting to hide in a nearby tree line. As the deputy approached, he was able to apprehend three of the individuals. The remaining fifteen fled into a nearby farm field. A perimeter was set up around the farm field with the assistance of additional deputies and agents from the U.S. Border Patrol. All fifteen subjects were located after a forty-five minute long search.
The subjects told deputies they were in the United States illegally. They had walked from Mexico and were waiting for a “Coyote” to drive them to Phoenix.
All eighteen individuals were turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol for processing.
